Excerpt from Frederick News-Post:
The developers of Frederick’s proposed downtown hotel and conference center took the next step Thursday toward bringing the project to fruition.
According to a news release from developers Plamondon Hospitality Partners, the developers, city officials and representatives of Randall Family LLC jointly filed an application Thursday morning with the city’s Historic Preservation Commission to begin the official review and approval process.
The Maryland Historical Trust will also review the plans.
The multimillion-dollar hotel and conference center project is planned for 200-212 E. Patrick St., which currently contains the Frederick trolley station building, which for years housed The Frederick News-Post’s operations, and the historic Birely Tannery site.
Since the property is in the Frederick Town Historic District, elements of the proposed project plans require approval from the city’s Historic Preservation Commission before eventually moving to the city’s Planning Commission for final site plan approval.
The design, which developers unveiled in May, contains four floors with 180 rooms, roughly 20,000 square feet of rentable meeting space, and about 160 underground parking spaces.
The application also proposes to renovate and restore the trolley station building, which includes removal of a pressroom that was added to the building in the 1960s. The application also includes a request to demolish the Birely Tannery building.
The newest design is slightly different from the design revealed in May. The one submitted Thursday separates two buildings along Carroll Street with a brick walkway. In the original design, the buildings were connected.
The Historic Preservation Commission is set to review and hold a public hearing on the application at its July 13 meeting.
