Bernie Callan, MAHDC founding member and current Treasurer and Vice President of Finance, recently received the 2015 National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Historic Preservation Medal. From the Frederick News-Post:

“If you step back and say, ‘Well, we accomplished this, so it’s time to quit,’ then [preservation] won’t keep going forward,” he said. “Someone once said once you drink the historic preservation water, it infuses you and keeps you going, and I guess that’s true because I drank the water long ago, and I’m not ready to quit.”

Deborah Richardson, a member of the local DAR that nominated Callan, said that the medal honors only about 30 people across the country each year.

“It’s almost like a lifetime achievement award,” she said. “In Bernie’s case, he was the one who initiated a lot of the organizations that oversaw the historic preservation of Frederick.”
