CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland mayor and City Council is seeking qualified candidates to fill vacancies on the Historic Preservation Commission, with at least one of the positions to be filled by a city resident.
Applicants must have a resume that meets the professional qualifications according to federal standard 36 CFR 61as a requirement for appointment, city officials said. Qualifying standards include a graduate degree from the disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archeology or other related disciplines such as urban planning, American studies, American civilization, cultural geography or cultural anthropology, or a combination of undergraduate degree and experience as recognized by the federal standards.
The commission meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Meetings are public sessions open to all members of the public, although those wishing to have their project reviewed must apply ahead of time to commission staff.
The commission acts to review certificate of appropriateness applications for work within the Canal Place Preservation District, a zoned historic district. The commission and its staff also serve to provide technical guidance to property owners with questions regarding design and maintenance issues, as well as direction in seeking financial assistance for rehabilitation projects within designated areas.
Resumes should be submitted to the city clerk by Nov. 30 through email at margie.woodring@cumberlandmd.gov or mailed to City Hall at 57 N. Liberty Street, Cumberland, MD 21502. Questions regarding qualifications may be addressed by calling 301-759-6431.
