Excerpt from the Herald and Chronicle:

Rising Sun’s Historical Preservation Commission has big plans for 2016. What they’d like is more people to join them.
Jimmy Gibney, who is filling in leading the group while President Tom Mumey is recovering from illness, said membership in the all volunteer organization is down. “We’ve lost some people. And it’s harder to get the younger generation to join. But I’m not saying they aren’t interested in history,” said Gibney. “You don’t have to live locally to become a member. You just have to have an interest in local history.” Gibney said there is a group member who lives in Florida.
The group has its longtime anchor events – the Sunfest Parade and booth and Civil War Reenactment every October. Gibney said that the focus of the monthly business meetings is shifting to include more fun and guest speakers.
One of the primary functions of the HPC is to maintain and operate the town’s museum. The museum is open by appointment and in cooperation with the Rising Sun Arts Alliance events.
To join the Historical Preservation Commission, there is a small annual fee for individual and family memberships. See any HPC member for an application.
