City of Frederick HPC to host workshop on draft amendment to historic district guidelines

Excerpt from Frederick News-Post:

The city’s Historic Preservation Commission will host a public workshop Thursday to discuss draft amendments to the Frederick Town Historic District design guidelines.

The guidelines, which dictate elements of new construction design for properties in the district, are required to go through periodic assessments to stay current. The draft amendments set for discussion over the next few weeks do not propose a full rewrite of the guidelines, but aim to remove ambiguities and inconsistencies, and address and expand on materials and technologies the original document did not cover.

The Board of Aldermen approved the first draft of the guidelines in 2009 and approved a set of amendments the following year. The current amendments are the first ones proposed since then.

The first public workshop on the guidelines is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the city’s municipal annex. A public meeting with residents of the Neighborhood Advisory Councils that have sections in the historic district is also set for Feb. 28.
